| Happy 100th Birthday to Lifelong Activist Mick VeloskeyBy Victor Bivell
Happy 100th Birthday to my friend Michael (Mick) Veloskey. Mick was born in Aegean Macedonia on 25 Aug 1924 and came to Australia as an 11 year old boy. He has always been interested in Macedonian politics and community affairs and has been a long-time legend for his many contributions to the Macedonian community. Among other achievements, he helped found and publish the Makedonska Iskra newspaper from 1946 to 1957, he helped establish the first Macedonian Orthodox Church in Sydney, at Rosebery, he was the founding president of the Aegean Macedonian Association of Australia, and he has worked for decades to promote human rights for ethnic Macedonians in Greece. He also served in the Australian Air Force during World War 2. An interview I did with Mick in 2005 is Here. The Makedonska Iskra newspaper is Here. 25 Aug 2024 Source: www.pollitecon.com |
